spent all day yesterday driving. i slept the majority of the whole time getting to our final stop for the day in el paso. which we werent too excited about but we didnt want to pull an all nighter. we got a tip that we had a place to stay at a friend of a friends house but we had to wait before they got off work at midnight. killed time at bars till than just to make the decision that a hotel would be a better option. wish we wouldve just decided that earlier. would've saved me money. slept ok, first night out of my own bed after a few weeks home is always kinda weird, but i'll get used to it fast. tonights stop is tempe at the yucca tap room where we pick up t.j.'s replacement for the next two weeks, his roommate pryor, or as we have been saying:"t.j. 2.0". leaving hotel shortly.

So we've been holed up at erics moms place for the past 3 days, so awesome to stay somewhere that reminds of you of your own mamas place, homecookin, tv watchin, laundrysizin.yes. Today we had to say our farewell to momma hq and head off to jacksonville where we will be making a racket on the water, literally on a boat. Should be fun, hopefully we wont sink..Past couple shows outside of tx have been kinda slow, metarie was cool for the fact that we got to meet 3 different folks that drove hours to come see us, tampa was a slow starter but ended up fun, orlando was early as fuck, but still pretty fun. Cant wait to head up north and get up in boston and nyc. We get to hang out with marky ramone. Crazy. In the van now, king khan and the shrines, 2 more hrs till our destination, word up

just got off work, its 4:31 am here in austin tx. perfect weather out the past week which is saddening to have to leave behind but im really excited to get out there and start playing again. im really excited to see all my old friends around the country and catch up, its been far too long it seems (it really hasnt but being home for a month after touring constantly can seem like an eternity) our first stops are in texas than we head through the south to florida, up the east coast, through the midwest and back. than were home for like 2 weeks or so and than we head out west to meet up with our buddies in rise against and rancid, now thats gonna be fucking crazy, cant wait. i'll definantly keep up with this little journal while were out. what sucks is that i lost my camera during sxsw! im gonna try and get another before we head out, i really liked keeping track of everything visually as well as writing. i think i have a couple of solo shows while were out as well, i know sure in baltimore and possibly chicago, i'll keep it updated as info comes in! till than...lay em down and slap em yap em!

i havent been keeping up with this since we got home, so im gonna try now before we soundcheck here in houston..
australia was awesome, many thanks to all the folks that helped us out,bedouin soundclas, the dudes in and with goldfinger, gina, bianca, the dudes in evergreen terrace, lots of fun was had with all of em. the shit part of the whole trip was the very end of it. we woke up the last day in perth pretty early, like 5 am hung over as fuck from 'last night of tour' partying with bedouin the night before. jumped in a bus and caught a 5 hour plane ride to sydney. we were delayed at sydney international for close to 8 hours. thanks to tj for wrangling up free meal vouchers 2 times in a row! needless to say they were used for booze the whole delay..we finally got on the plane, trent reznor was pissed! haha..when we got on they told us we would have to make a stop in honolulu airport to do a service check..our plan had a chance of not making it. awesome. we finally got to lax to find out we missed all of our connecting flights back home, so it was either wait 6 hours and leave at 12:50 am or stay the night in free hotel rooms and leave the next afternoon, we all stayed except for erick. went out and hung with our pal from volcom mike and our girl from villam ginny. had some drinks at the cha cha and split for austin the next day. it was awesome to get home and see all my buddies and my two roommates. so from there...we hung out at home, i worked a few bar shifts and now were in the middle of a little texas run. the record came out this past tuesday which was really exciting. we did an instore at waterloo in town, total blast.
we went to corpus the next day and played an alright show, it was a weekday and we never really do that great in corpus, it wasnt a total bust though. now we at rudyards in the dirty third, about to soundcheck, im sure its gonna be a good time...

sitting in a hotel lobby in adelaide, i had a weird time playing today. i think it just seemed a bit un-organized when we were setting up , no one really knew what was going on and than next thing you know were playing. after that i just sat around in catering and used up some free internet, shits sparce here! i havent drank much today...been kinda rolling hard since we got here. made some new friends with the dudes in goldfinger and mike hererra. good times! got see some good shows but fucking blew it when i didnt go see bedouin soundclash do the club date. alkaline trio was good..glad i got to see them in a club and not at the festival. i dont really enjoy hanging out and watching bands in a festival setting, it always sounds weird and the sets are too short. i stink right now..we played around noon here, hung out and had to go to the airport after the show to catch a plane. i dont think any of the other bands who flew today showered before the flight either. luckily it was only an hour..been at the hotel for awhile now but like i said, the slim chance you may have internet in this country you use it, because it'll be a long time before you get it again. i made a little video of our first couple days here..mostly just us in planes and buses. i miss mexican food so much, im going straight to marias when i get home, gonna be good!! might go walk around but im so damn beat and totally broke. heres that video

sitting here in a hotel room in sydney, spent the last 2 days traveling hardcore.
left austin with guitar and bag in hand, got on a plane to LAX at 7pm, had a hazy layover and than got on a 14 hour flight to sydney. what a flight...longest one ive been on to date. i thought it was pretty funny to hear the stewards talking over the intercom about how this unicef donation they were doing was keeping other retired stewards who were doing the counting of the donations 'out of the pubs and clubs' you dont really hear about something that keeps the people who are serving you from getting wasted..surly stewards! we arrived in sydney and jumped into the biggest clusterfuck of bands and gear ever imagined. let me remind you that we are not the only band arriving...theres 60 bands on this tour...many from the u.s. and arriving from other countries all at the same time..definition of a CLUSTERFUCK. after hours of standing in line with gear and missing a flight we made it to our gate. had some drinks, stood in line some more and got on another transferring flight to brisbane. that one was not so bad, only an hour in the air. fine. we arrived..fadi and i's guitar didnt show up...but one of the fine folks working for soundwave took the hit and stayed to wait for it. got picked up by a bus and taken to our hotel. swanky to say the least. the rest of the day was spent drinking and eating in brisbane. lovely city lovely nightlife, great city

feb 22nd
got up at 9 am, showered and headed to the lobby, ate some lobby food and hopped on a shuttle to the festival grounds. we sat around and sweated for most of the morning, fucking humid as fuck today.

feb 23rd
cant really remember were i left off...or what happend i mean between where i left off and now, its been a whirlwind of a past few days..so yesterday..
we arrived at our hotel night before last, the vibe in sydney, place looks like a giant american apparel/ikea ad. cool so far though. i'd be more up on these updates but internet is sparce unless you're paying for it. we woke up pretty early yesterday to catch a coach with the other bands to be taken to the grounds..weather was alot breezier/cooler. when we arrived to the grounds we were met with a squad of police officers with drug sniffing dogs. weird. apparently they have a no tolerance rule after an incident last week where a girl got freaked out about cops being at this festvial so she swallowed a handful of hits of acid and died. luckily no one on our coach had anything. after alot of confusion about where we were supposed to go (this grounds on this place were fucking enormous) we finally got to our stage.
got all set up and played a quick set, it was pretty good i thought, very hot and sweaty. most of the dudes wanted to run back to the hotel since it was pretty early. rob and i decided to stick it out and try and catch some of the bands we've been wanting to see on the tour. after about 2 hours we decided we couldnt hang and bailed back home. got back and had some dinner with the singer and guitarist in goldfinger, walked around a bit, walked in a cathedral where a huge ceremony was going on, pretty cool. i have video and pictures galore..i gotta sift through all of it to see whats worth putting up. probally at the end of this big trip. after that i headed back to my room and conked out by 6pm, didnt wake up till this morning. i think all the traveling finally caught up with me.
got up this morning and met up with some of our dudes and walked to get a veggie kabob, good shit! bought a couple beers for later and now im sitting in my hotel room..day off..might go get my hair cut later, make a run for the beaches, we'll see!

here's how it all went down:
left on thursday around 6pm in the evening, packed a quick bag before i left and of course i forgot some things i wanted to bring on my trip, like my good headphones that don't make your ears hurt like those standard ones that come with the ipod, a book etc. Got on the plane with the other dudes and had the expected uncomfortable as hell flight to lax, wasn't that bad though. I'm glad i wasn't fadi, apparently he sat next to a woman who was going or coming from rehab that chain-drank on the plane, laughing and crying in the same sentence. my trip didn't look so bad after hearing that. we touch down in los angeles. everyone splits up, mike and i go to l.a. to do press in the morning, rob goes to silverlake to visit friends, and eric and fadi go hold fort down in long beach. nothing too crazy that night, mike and i crashed in l.a. and the next morning we went on a couple of interviews.
first off with our good friend joe sibb at complete control radio, broad casted from the side one dummy records office. joe's a really good guy, super high energy, and hes got stories for hours i'm sure. did a quick interview, recorded 2 acoustic versions of 'choppy' and 'alexandria' and than we were off to the next stop which was amoeba records. if you have never been here before i have to say the place is a trip, probably the most dense and largest record store ive ever been to in my life. you could get lost for hours in that place. mike, rob, and myself did a radio interview for bbc1 where we walked around and picked out records and songs from the records to be played on air, i picked some curtis mayfield, cody chesnutt, one man army i think and some other stuff. we did some other goofy things like played acoustic in the garage and got video taped running around the record store.
following that we got some food with the label folk, and drove down to long beach. long drive there all crammed in the back of our girl ginny song's car. we get there and sound check and chill out for the rest of the night till show time. i was super excited that we were playing with mike watt of minutemen, the fog, stooges, etc. and this cover band called black fag.
i stepped out for a cigarette for a minute while the first band was playing and had a seat. sure enough mike watt follows and has a seat next to me. i started to talk with him and he was a really nice guy, very personable and had alot to say. i asked him what kind of bass he was playing tonight because he was carrying it around with him everywhere on his back in a gigbag. he said someone had just given it to him 3 days ago and that it was one of the best things hes ever played, he handed it to me and i had to agree that it was a nice one. even had a picture of the late ron asheton in the finish. he went on and played shortly there after and it was one of the coolest sets I've seen in awhile. him on vocals, dude on drums, and dude on organ, very interesting, i have video that I'll throw up on the interweb soon. next up was black fag. i had watched them change in the backstage room before the show and they were getting into character. they were really funny dudes and it made me excited to see them play. they went on and put on a hell of show, so much fun. my favorite was when they changed the lyrics to 'my war' into 'my war-drobe'. next up was us and i thought we played a really good set, very sweaty, very fun.
after the show crashed out to get up in the morning for an all day photo taking extravaganza. went to a few places...outside our hotel, a restaurant called the prospector, the v. room bar, and than back to the hotel.
shortly after that we went back up to alexs for round 2. i was starting to feel like shit right around than..total exhaustion for the weekend. not enough sleep mixed with too much drinking and being awake. nothing too crazy but woke up the next morning with the flu. got up and taken to the airport by alex and mikey and almost didnt make the flight. they said it was too late to check our bags when we got there but i knew we still had a half hour before the plane left. i felt like shit so bad and i wasnt about to sit in the airport sick for another 5 hours so i took off to security, eric thought the same. we went up to the line, bags in hand, and told one of the security folk that our plane was leaving in 15 minutes. they waved eric and i through which left us just enough time to run on and get seated. felt like total shit on the plane. cold sweats, fever, coughing, dizzy..the flu sucks.
Finally we made it back to austin. got picked up by my buddy autumn, than went to get my car and immediately got into bed. good little weekend

so im back and finally assimilating back in normal work a day week life. that trip was so much fucking fun! thanks again to rich, autumn, pat, mike, kenz, the souls, zak, asbury lanes, joe, daria, the calis, and everyone who helped out and showed all of us a fucking blast. we went into the city and recorded 3 demos with our buddy mike the day after the show. started at 4 pm and didnt stop until close to 5 am. im pretty stoked on the songs.. the next day we got up and ate and headed to philly so i could catch my plane back to texas. plane ride was pretty standard, i threw together a little video montage of all the little experimental footage i took with my new camera while waiting for my flight. i'll throw that up here. i'll try and throw some photos up here as well.

so heres what went down the past two days...

stayed up instead of sleeping before my flight on saturday...6 am to philadelphia..rough plane ride mainly because i was so fucking beat. i cant sleep before leaving for big trips, it can be car or plane, still wont be able to sleep. got to philly and got picked up by rich and mackenzie, one of the funniest car rides anywhere. drove to new jersey..went and ate at richs sisters work. took a nap. went up and practiced at the lanes, thanks to the attack and detournement for everything they helped with. after that we hung out back at richs moms and decompressed a bit. went back up there and saw so many old faces, it was so much fun. packed out and smiles all around. we played pretty well i thought...my voice was beat from doin it too hard when we practiced so i kinda had a cookie monster thing going on..overall it was a fucking blast. after that we did some hard hanging out back at richs moms, i'll throw some photos up after i get em uploaded. right now were getting ready to go take some photos with autumn at the convention center...than off to manhattan to record some shit with our buddy mike mcwilliams...will update soon..

decided to stay up instead of go to bed before my flight this morning to philly. i had a blast in dallas and denton these past couple of days. spent all day doing nothing with the moms...watched zodiac and got 'thrilled to the edge of my seat'. now ive got a half hour till i have to go to dfw airport to hop a plane to philly..to get picked up by rich and driven up to new jersey...practice...canvas the souls show and some other stuff about tonight..play...than sunday were gonna run to manhattan to try and record a couple songs real quick with our buddy mike mcwilliams who just moved to nyc about a year ago from houston. gonna be jam packed and super fucking fun im sure. im stoked to see a few austinites who just so happen to be on that side of the country at the right time. gonna be fun...i got a camera for xmas so i'll try and throw pictures up on this thing as well. till than! adios!

FINALLY. sitting in my moms living room in dallas..ive been looking forward to this for the past 5 days. finally catching up with myself, im so exhausted. ive been up since 6 am, running around catching shuttles and planes all day to get home. i met alot of really interesting people today on those plane rides though...i had a few adult beverages, helped out alot along the way. so yeah..heres the run down of what happen since thursday:

we practiced a few times last week to get back in the groove of bein a band together again..it had been weeks, months maybe. we had a chick from vimby come out and interview us and shoot some of the practice, than we had our boy jj. castillo come out and do the same the next night..more of just footage when he came...footage to be used in the future. than the next day we flew out at 945, got sent to dallas and had to sit at tgifridays for an extra 3 hours because laguardia in new york was covered in snow. 3 hours and 50 dollars later (fucking airport prices for beer and liquor fucking suck) we were on a plane to new york. we got out, got picked up by a shuttle and taken to hotel 3030. got cleaned up and eric, mike and i hit the streets to find food, drinks, and old friends. stopped by the black and white and met up with my good buddy mike obrien from long beach, than got some slices at our buddy kevin coles new pizza place titled simply 'the pizza shop' really good place next door to niagra in the lower east side. buffalo chick pizza, come on back. mikey mcwilliams joined up for the end where we closed it out at my favorite bar in new york, manitobas. after that we ran back and had to be up at 8 am to get to the sound stage. cabbed it out like a clown car to the studio, i was sitting on mikes lap haha.

we got in there and it was kinda intimidating, we met all these new crew dudes and it was definantly the kind of situation that makes you feel like you have no idea what you're doing, like it makes you feel so green. the crew, travis, mateo, and everyone there were seriously some of the best fucking people ive met in a long time. so much fun, laughing, hanging out, great total pizza party times. im not going to spoil it and say what happens in the video but its gonna be good, im pretty fucked up there in whatever parts i was in haha, so cut to next scene and were done. went out and hung out at home sweet home with my buddy mike obrien bartending and than made it back in time to get 3 hours of sleep before having to catch a shuttle back to the airport to fly to ohare in chicago, than ultimately dallas, where i am now...lots of delays and boring 'airplane conversation' action packed fun weekend...cant wait to go back with broken gold this saturday...hot dogs, pizza, beers, good times

nervous as fuck, we played after allan killed it. i think the acoustic thing works but we've been tryin to do this shit in front of people that expect the big sound. last time we did it we werent amplified so that made us play harder and sing louder because of the bar noise..this time we plugged in a little bit and it made it harder to do i think..it was more of a struggle to depend on technology and it was a different kind of attention...maybe after practice or some shit...fuck amps and p.a.'s!!!! allan rules though, so do rich and pat. i still had a fucking fun time.

so im caving in and starting up a self indulgent ego trip web blog...im pretty stoked on it though. im about to be really busy and doing a bunch of weird shit with my 2 bands,mainly with the gamblers. and reading my buddy pat martins journal of all his travels made me jealous and really think about all those crazy stories and even all the little boring shit that no one really gets to hear about traveling around and being in this weird scene, touring and playing music etc. you definantly run into some weird shit along the way to something as simple as playing a show in a different city other than your own. so here it is...lets catch up on whats going on...

R. Gamblers recorded a record earlier this year with andrew murdock, producer of 2006's "to the confusion of our enemies" it sounds great and were all super stoked...right now is the weird time when you sit on it and prepare for the next year by setting up all your ducks in a row and getting a gameplan together as far as future tours etc. we're flying to new york to do a video for the next single next friday, which im super fucking excited about..i have a love/hate relationship for that place but right now..im feeling like im going to love it.

Broken Gold is a band i started with our former bass player and good friend pat lillard, and my old co-parlor employee and great friend rich cali. it started out completely for fun with no intention of really doing much but lately, after a year, it seems like its starting to get a little more organized and thought out than as we planned. im so excited about this as well. we have a new 7 inch which just came out like today, we've played some really really fun shows, and were playing in asbury park the week after the gamblers video...so that means im flying back to dallas for xmas, than back to the east coast for a show with broken gold, and than finally back to austin for new years. so i have a lot on my plate...as well as working a day job in austin. i figured...'shit i might as well document it' some of it may be interesting who knows...either way, whatever, this shits pretty lame anyways...maybe i started this because i cant sleep and its freezing cold in my room...lets see how tomorrows acoustic broken gold set goes.
